It means not having a mind\u2019s eye.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been in this world, and yet I could still visualize while meditating.<\/p>\n<p>How?<\/p>\n<p>By using a full range of \u201cMagnetic Modes\u201d to experience multisensory visualization.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll talk about these visualization modes below. But for now, it\u2019s important to consider what we get from going past pictures to multisensory visuals.<br \/>\n<a id=\"benefits\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">5 Incredible Benefits of Visualization<\/h2>\n<p>There are a handful of important benefits a visual meditation practice brings.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">1. Digital Fasting Boosts Memory<\/h3>\n<p>Time away from devices creates mental focus, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/how-to-improve-concentration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">boosts concentration<\/a> and extends attention span<\/p>\n<p>A lot of people look for visualization apps. In many cases, that\u2019s going to be counterproductive. Instead, you get more benefits from leaving all the devices behind. I call this Digital Fasting.<\/p>\n<p>I try to get in at least one per day. You\u2019ll also expand your attention span.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, the walking back and forth from your chosen meditation area gives you exercise and encourages diffuse thinking.<\/p>\n<p>As Alex Pang notes in his book <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strategy.rest\/?page_id=8643\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Rest: Why You Get More Done When You Work Less<\/em><\/a>, many of the most productive authors and inventors visualized while walking. It was the walking itself that helped them come up with so many great ideas.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">2. Not much is known about it, but one aspect seems to have involved thinking through a series of metrics.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you would think about how much something weighed, its length, width, color, and other aspects. Merely running through these characteristics helps the mind consider problems in a way that is not possible without multi-dimensional visualization.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.triz40.com\/aff_Principles_TRIZ.php\">40 Triz Principles<\/a> are a related, modern manifestation of this approach to visualization. You might look at something like this and ask, \u201cWhat the heck does this have to do with meditation?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Please revisit point one and think of all the problems that people solved when they went back to first principles about certain problems and took a walk to \u201crotate\u201d the various dimensions in their minds.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">3. You can imagine your own body using multi-sensory tools and then imagine each part relaxing.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you can visualize a warm blanket easing all the muscles in your feet, then your calves, thighs, lower back, etc.<\/p>\n<p>And by using a visualization of relaxing yourself, you get to meditate and practice meditative visualization at the same time!<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">4. But that\u2019s the point. Visualizing attachments as a kind of dragon-like monster instantly helps me neutralize unwanted thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, you can use positive thoughts to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/positive-visualization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">get rid of unwanted ones through visualization<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">5. Provides Emotional Stability<\/h3>\n<p>When you practice visualization consistently, you have mental images you can revisit on demand. I could hear the water lapping at the shore and felt a light breeze.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was bliss in the midst of a nervous moment and I took that emotional stability with me into the examination room. After the committee grilled me for two hours, the head examiner told me, \u201cThe only guy cooler than you is Miles Davis!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I told him that I really owe it all to the guided visualization meditation that I created for myself. It\u2019s also in Toronto, a place where I have lots of history.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Next, I think of the <em>taste<\/em> of water from the water bottle I used to always have bolted to my bike.<br \/>\nI <em>smell<\/em> the water and finally think of the spatial elements.<br \/>\nI\u2019m <em>talking<\/em> about the length of the bench. How thick the wood was and how heavy it must have been.<\/p>\n<p>It might sound silly, but it\u2019s actually the path to deepening the experience of the visualization meditation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Finally, I sometimes add spatial factors like <em>how long it took<\/em> to ride my bike to the lake and <em>how far away<\/em> the CN Tower appears in the distance.<\/p>\n<p>All of these factors combined really pay off when you practice them consistently and as a package.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">2. Have a Regular Meditation Spot and Time of Day<\/h3>\n<p>I\u2019ve already mentioned my current favorite meditation area. There\u2019s great wisdom in that when it comes to getting the most out of relaxation visualization in particular.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In my own practice, I don\u2019t get out of bed in the morning without visualizing first. That makes it less critical when exactly I go outside to walk and meditate. But I still try to make sure it\u2019s before noon to keep a regular pattern.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">3. Pick an Object or Text<\/h3>\n<p>Franz Bardon describes a powerful object-based meditation in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barnesandnoble.com\/w\/initiation-into-hermetics-franz-bardon\/1103217458\"><em>Initiation Into Hermetics<\/em><\/a>. Basically, you picture a clock on a wall.<\/p>\n<p>The goal is to hold that clock in your mind as sharply as possible for as long as you can, working up to 20 minutes or more.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s strictly necessary to go that long. Even 2-5 minutes will do. It doesn\u2019t have to be a clock either \u2014 especially since such an object involves movement and sound (if it ticks). You can imagine a vase, bookcase, or a toy you had as a child.<\/p>\n<p>Or, my favorite is to use passage meditation. I\u2019ve memorized long-form texts and simply start at the beginning and don\u2019t stop mentally reciting them until I\u2019m done. Currently, I recite four pieces and it takes about forty minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes I recite them out loud, but usually I just do it in silence. Alexander Dicsone advocated this practice, something Martin Faulks has recently revived in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lewismasonic.co.uk\/esoteric\/the-hermetic-art-of-memory.htm\"><em>The Hermetic Art of Memory<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, you don\u2019t have to tie your visualization practice to esoteric matters.<\/p>\n<p>Even creating an image of Einstein writing E=MC2 on a chalkboard can provide a powerful meditation that offers all of the benefits of above. After all, I\u2019m a scientist myself and don\u2019t for a second want to live without mental imagery that helps create emotional stability and adds stamina to my focus.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">4. Journal Your Experience<\/h3>\n<p>I find that keeping a journal is one of the best ways to learn more about meditation and how to deepen it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19676\" src=\"https:\/\/e5hougg55fx.exactdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/journal.jpg?strip=all&lossy=1&quality=60&ssl=1\" alt=\"A journal on a wooden table. This is a great way to visualize, even if you have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/aphantasia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">aphantasia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Just the other day, I was meditating in the morning and suddenly a vibrant experience of snow sledding with my dad and brother came up. I made sure to write it down in my 5-year snapshot journal.<\/p>\n<p>That way, I\u2019ll not only remember it, but it will come back to me in my handwriting a year later on autopilot. And all without needing an app to remind me.<br \/>\n<a id=\"simplified\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Meditation and Visualization, Simplified<\/h2>\n<p>After all, isn\u2019t that the goal of a proper visual meditation practice?
